Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
Thyme is indigenous to the Mediterranean and is used widely as a culinary spice / flavouring. Wild Thyme (Thymus serpyllum) is native to Britain and Europe. A small, bushy, evergreen herb growing to the height of 6 cm. Taste and smell characteristic with Thymus vulgaris being the stronger of the two. The whole herb is used medicinally.
Thyme has carminative (eases pains and helps expel gas from the digestive system), antiseptic and antifungal, antitussive (prevents or relieves coughing), expectorant (looses phlegm), and spasmolytic (muscle relaxing).
